Chapter 4 - Page 64

Posted June 10th, 2024

I like to reveal plot twists specifically in the context that they’re important. So I knew going into this chapter that this reveal had to happen via a conversation between Vermillion and Phil, alone, because the main reason that this matters at all is that it MASSIVELY informs their relationship and the source of Vermillion’s anger and insecurity. You already knew that Vermillion is “a secret,” bears countless uncanny similarities with their father that go beyond the physical, which they go out of their way to compensate for by carving out a unique identity, and holds intense, personal hatred for Phil. Those are the symptoms that affect the story, all this page is doing is giving you the name of the disease. Anyway, I’m very glad that we’ve gotten to the point in the story where I can start talking about how Vermillion is transgender in both a literal and metaphorical sense.
